Harvest Festival Postponed...

POSTPONED until OCT 24th!

I just wanted to mention that the Harvest Festival in Bennett Park which was scheduled for last weekend was moved to this Saturday, the 24th. Hopefully the weather will cooperate this time or they'll end up having it on Halloween! Bummer that I'll be out of town, we trekked over last Saturday with my mouth watering for pie and man was that a disappointment.

XC in the Bronx

Now is the PERFECT time of year to get out and explore new paths and parks and even try out a 5K on the world famous trails of Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. The park is home to tons of high school, college and NYRR races throughout the fall XC season. I ran in the Harry Murphy 5k there last Sunday and it was a gorgeous day and the trails were a blast. If you've been scared off in the past by the thousands of people at an NYRR race, this is a totally different experience! Last week there were just a few hundred people of all ages and its a much more relaxed atmosphere. I decided that morning to hop on the 1 train to 242nd St and run, there's registration at the park and its only $10 (less if you register online ahead of time at nyrr.org)

Think it sounds like a fun, possibly new challenge for you or just a great chance to get in some hills and speedwork? You're in luck- the Kurt Steiner 5K is this Sunday at 11:30am (see, you even get to sleep in!!) Registration takes place by the tortoise and the hare statue just a few blocks north of the 242nd st 1 train station. Go for it, you'll thank me later :) To register and for directions check out the NY Road Runners site here . Oh and there's free and secure baggage dropoff so you can stash your extra layers.

oh and the photo is courtesy of nyrr.org I should remember to bring my own camera this weekend!

One Fall Photo

Even though I think I took this over the summer, I saw this again today and it struck me as a perfect fall photo! Enjoy and have a great week.

Around the hood

Big weekend ahead for Hudson Heights! In case you missed the flyers plastered all over town:

mmmm I remember the gorgeous looking pies sitting out there teasing me last year but we were there too early and the pies hadn't been judged yet so I couldn't have a slice... so sad. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Anyway, its a great, fun-filled day for those with kids and those of us without. Head over to Bennett Park (Ft Washington between 183rd and 185th Sts) between 1-4pm to join the fun.

Autumn Running in New York

Well, I can't believe it but my wedding is a mere 19 days away! Hence the lack of posts lately. sorry about that, if people would send in their damn RSVP cards on time I'd have a lot more time to myself... I hate to vent here but seriously people, I've already addressed it and stamped it, how hard can it be to pop it in your mailbox? Ok, I'm done. Sorry.

So in more interesting news, Autumn is in full force, at least this week. Hopefully warm weather rolls back around for Halloween (our wedding day!) before settling into the 50's and below. I spotted tons of pumpkins on my trek over to Broadway to pick up some Mums today and they all made me smile. Fall is such a pretty season, I can't wait for the leaves to change. I'm convinced that the best running takes place in the fall because of the crunch of leaves beneath our feet.

Speaking of running, the ING NYC Marathon is fast approaching! I'm not doing it this year because its the day after the wedding (I wanted to, but no one thought it was a good idea) but you can get out and cheer for the 40,000 runners out there giving it their all on this 40th anniversary of the marathon. It's such an amazing experience for both the runners and the spectators. My mom came into the city to cheer for me last year and was BLOWN away by what a good time she had cheering for all of the crazy and amazing runners out there. For more info about volunteering or simply getting out there to cheer everyone on, check out the website: Volunteering for the ING NYC Marathon

These are just a few photos from last years race, what a gorgeous day. I am on my way to securing a spot for next year and I can't wait to do it again.
